VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Durham PTSA Needs YOU!!!!
There are so many opportunities for you, the parent, to be involved at Durham Middle School.  The PTSA appreciates any time that you can give!  Listed below are descriptions and contact information of the many committees we have at Durham. 

REFLECTIONS- This committee coordinates Durham's annual competition of art, music, literature, photography, dance and video/film.  For more information and forms, please visit the Reflections page.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION - This committee assists administration at Durham with its Academic Excellence program which rewards the students for Perfect Attendance, all A's , A's & B's as well as an .5 point increase in their GPA.  The PTSA in conjunction with administration bring these kids together to celebrate.

CAT CHOW - Rewards the students every 9 1/2 weeks for Outstanding Behavior with an extended 20 minute lunch period.  Larissa Sagastume  lmena@aol.com

CANDY GRAMS - Committee Chair Needed - 3 times a year the PTSA sells Candy Grams that the students can send to their friends.  Volunteers are needed to sell, assemble and distribute to homerooms. Jeannine Dolan

BOX TOPS, KROGER & PUBLIX COMMITMENT CARDS - This committee helps to advertise and promote the use of Publix and Kroger Earning for Learning Cards.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH - This committee coordinates programs that benefit our community like   back to school drives, a shoe drive for hurricane victims, collecting clothing and household items for the Giving Tree and community service project.  This committee is always open to new ideas. Mary Kalafut

COPY LAB - Help in the copy lab to make copies for teachers and count out scantrons according to teacher requests.

DUTY FREE LUNCH - Volunteers for this committee once a month chaperone all grade levels during their lunch time from 11:15-1:15 so the teachers can have lunch without the students.  Michele Beagle  smb0525@aol.com 

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT - (Committee Chair Needed)  This committee identifies and provides opportunities for students to enhance their knowledge and skills across the various academic curricula.  Ideas for this committee might include: Tune Out TV Week, Character Education & Career Planning Programs. HEALTH & WELLNESS - Our PTSA Health related committee coordinates the annual hearing & vision screening for all 7th grade students and those new to Cobb County schools.  This committee would also like to host a blood drive in the spring.

HOSPITALITY - Friendly Faces Needed!  Hospitality volunteers help plan the Back to School Breakfast, provide snacks once a month for Duty Free Lunch, provides treats during Conference Week and organize a week long celebration for Teacher Appreciation Week.

MEDIA CENTER- Volunteers assist the ladies in the Media Center and re-shelve books.

MEMBERSHIP - This committee promotes ideas to encourage membership in the Durham PTSA. Executive Board

NEWSLETTER - Volunteers help gather information from teachers, students, committees, as well as local happenings for the "Wildcat Whistler". 

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS - Volunteers assist in the office once a month or more for approx. 2 hours.  They greet visitors and make sure that they sign-in and wear nametags.

OLYMPICS - This committee assists the PE department in a week long celebration, usually held in April, where student's compete against one another either individually or by pods in various sports related activities.  Lisa McMahon  lisamcm62@yahoo.com

6th, 7th & 8th GRADE REPS. - These committees assist by grade level to help plan and coordinate various activities and dances for the students throughout the year.

YOUTH SERVICES - (Committee Chair Needed)  This committee helps plan activities and educational programs for the students throughout the year such as Red Ribbon Week, etc.

PUBLIC RELATIONS - Promoting activities at Durham and assuring that our students receive recognition for their endeavors and achievements are very important to the PTSA. The Public Relations Committee provides pictures and articles to the Bright Side of various events and activities throughout the year.

SCIENCE FAIR - Volunteers are needed to help plan and assist in various parts of the Durham Science Fair.

SCHOOL DIRECTORY - This committee needs approx. 5-6 volunteers to help produce the Durham Student Directory. Heidi Maggio

SCHOOL STORE - Volunteers are needed to help staff the school store on Tuesday thru Friday 8:50 - 9:10am. Leslie Smith   LeslieMSmith@comcast.net

SPECIAL STUDENT SERVICES - This committee addresses the needs of the diverse learners that we have at Durham Middle School.  This committee also promotes each child's abilities rather than their disability.  OPEN
